Silencing the LIM Error Code Alarm

Isolated Power Systems – Silencing the LIM Error Code Alarm

Configuration:
One panel with dual output voltage (example: 120vac / 120vac or 208vac / 120vac), one or two breaker panel(s), and one or two Sentry 5 line isolation monitor(s) (LIM).

Problem:
The Sentry 5 LIM has error codes which detects software failure, such as low voltage F4, or line frequency out of range F1, and so on. On the LIM face the LIM will display the Failure Code as an "F" followed by a number. When this happens, the LIM will reset and try to see if it clears the failure. If it doesn’t it will alarm with an audible alarm and red light. It will keep doing this until maintenance comes to change the LIM. If this happens during a medical procedure maintenance cannot open the panel to change the LIM.

Solution:
Maintenance can use a small Phillips screwdriver and remove the 4 screws holding the LIM faceplate to the LIM. Locate Dip Switch 2 and slide switch 2 from left to right. This will mute the audible alarm on the LIM. It will not mute any remotes. If the hospital has one of our portable LIMs, plug it into any receptacle the defective LIM was monitoring. The portable LIM will then take over monitoring the system.

Changing the Error Code status by the Sentry 5 dip switch:
Switch 2 is the only switch that needs to be changed. First, remove the cover plate as indicated in figure 1. Locate the dip switch as shown in figure 2 and change switch 2 from Off to On. This will mute the LIM audible alarm. Replace the cover plate.

Note:
After the operation is over the hospital can now change the defective LIM out or have Isolated Power Specialist change the LIM and recertify the LIM.
